Oban Distillery based in the heart of the historic port serving the islands on the west coast of Scotland is one of the most visited distilleries in the whole of Scotland and boasts a 200 plus year history of distilling in the same facility in Oban .
To continue the exceptional service to visitors , Oban Distillery and Hearts and Feints Design commissioned Stag Developments to transform an existing concrete storeroom into a new tasting room experience for clients and visitors to the distillery.
The tasting experience at The Oban Distillery was held within the visitor shop and bar area and meant that when a tasting was in progress the areas were restricted for other visitors.
The existing storeroom in the middle of the facility, with concrete walls, floor and no windows or aspect to the wider facility, was chosen to be transformed into a dedicated tasting room.
The design incorporated a complete transformation of the area, a feature display wall, flooring , lighting and furnishings to showcase the Oban history, brand and enhance and deliver a bespoke space for the Distillery to showcase its products.
The refurbishment manifested Oban’s approach to whisky making; including focussing on the use of traditional components associated with the distilling process, Oak to represent the casks, brass features and clear clean lines in the overall design concept.
These elements create a memorable experience for guests, with references to Oban Distillery history and the inclusion of the distillery within the town of Oban itself, showcasing whisky creation and flavour-inspired décor.
It was essential to the Oban company that the site remain fully operational throughout the refurbishment.
Through careful management and phasing of the works, Stag Developments were able to mitigate disruption by ensuring the continuous operation of the area including the adjacent retail shop throughout the project and continued visitor tours.
